About JAF 2008

The 2008 Junction Arts Festival is already in the planning stages with the focus on the Junction’s first Centennial Celebrations.  It is quite a story.  In 1908 the Junction was incorporated as Toronto City West.  It rivaled the City of Toronto in size and history states that is was the last link in the rail lines that connected Ontario, Ontario North and Quebec with the rest of the country.  The Junction area was a vital point for all immigrants entering into this part of the Country.  As the story goes the Junction only remained incorporated for less than a year when in 1909 it amalgamated with Toronto (to help keep Toronto from bankruptcy.)

In between then and now the Junction has transformed itself many times over with on of the most recent events being the return of licensed establishment in the late 1990’s.  In 2008, as the Junction is once again being touted as the biggest up and coming district in Toronto ( Toronto Life Magazine) the Junction Forum for Art and Culture is Planning Celebrations that will mark the significance of the rich history and contribution that the Junction has made to the fabric of the City.
