Opening Night Festivities

Gypsophilia

The opening night gala for the 2008 Junction Arts Festival was a great success. We gathered in the Junction City square with local artists, musicians, residents, business owners and dignitaries for a fabulous outdoor opening night party.

Beginning at 7pm, the great gypsy jazz of Gypsophilia filled the square while guests mixed and mingled. This night also marked the opening of the Juried Art Exhibition, indoor art installations and all the Junction galleries. Guests moved back and forth from the gala and the galleries, then settled in at the Junction City Square for special guest speakers, the announcement of the Juried Art Exhibit winners and the official [murmur] project unveiling.

In attendance were Mayor David Miller, Minister of Culture Aileen Carroll, Executive Director of the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund Kathleen Sharpe, MP for Parkdale-High Park Peggy Nash, MPP for Parkdale-High Park Cheri DiNovo as well our board members, local residents and business owners, and many of the artists, performers and musicicans that would grace our stages through the rest of the festival. The evening was emceed by Junction Forum for Art and Culture board chair Councillor Bill Saundercook.
