Studio 1:1 - Kira Varvanina and Edward Lin

Kira Varvanina
Kira Varvanina completed her Masters of Architecture at Carleton University in 2007. During her studies, Kira not only produced numerous architectural projects using the wood and industrial shops, but also participated in a lighting workshop gala. She created a food serving installation made out of 8’ tall fluorescent tubes, designed to carry wine. When guests poured themselves drinks, fluorescent lights would illuminate the moving liquid.
After working for a number of architectural firms in Toronto, she found that her creativity was not being fully utilized and so has taken the path of becoming an independent artist. Recently, Kira participated in the “Grand Trunk” exhibition at the Gladstone Hotel where she presented a diorama within a luggage trunk reflecting one’s memories past and forgotten.

Edward Lin
Edward Lin completed his Masters of Architecture at Carleton University in 2007. During his academic studies, he participated in numerous architectural competitions, as well as the 2003 Kosmic event held in the Architecture School building. It was here that participants explored an inverted room by walking on the ceiling. Upon graduating, he worked as a project architect in an architectural firm in Toronto, overseeing numerous additions, alterations and renovation projects.

Studio 1:1
Studio 1:1 is a collaboration of ideas and dreams between Kira and Edward. They recently participated in Come Up To My Room 2010 with a public space installation, A Piece of the Pie. After appearing in the National Post, SNAP Downtown Toronto and other media outlets, the piece was installed at the Perspective show at Snowball Gallery and 2968 Dundas St. West.
