Green Village
2009 marks the third year of the Green Village, which aims to foster and cultivate environmental interaction though our information zone. This is where organizations, vendors, and speakers are encouraged to share the spotlight on issues facing the environment and ways in which we can work together to maintain and sustain a healthy and liveable planet.
One of the highlights of this year’s village is the presentation of the Musical Group Mr. Something Something whose street concerts sound are driven by people generated Bicycle power.
As part of our focus this year, Home Green Home, we are featuring information booths that focus on incorporating green-conscious living into ones lifestyle. Information on reducing your ecological footprint, saving money on renovations and energy consumption, government programs, alternative energy, city planning and much more are being offered.
The 2009 Junction Arts Festival will be 'Bullfrogpowered' with 100% green electricity. This means that Bullfrog Power injected carbon-free green power onto the Ontario electricity grid to match the amount of electricity used by the Junction Arts Festival. Choosing green, carbon-free power is an easy way for homes, businesses and organizations to help fight climate change and create a healthier environment for future generations. Visit Bullfrog Power on the web at bullfrogpower.com.

Mr. Something Something has built its reputation on high-energy interactive live shows while exploring uncharted musical territory, fusing African rhythm with jazz and pop. Their live show has become a vehicle for its green politics and dancefloor activism. To emphasize the importance of audience participation and draw attention to sustainability issues, the Toronto collective has put together Canada's first bicycle-powered concert: the SoundCycle. The band's second album The Edge was nominated for a JUNO for World Music Album of the Year in 2007. Over the last 5 years the band has toured relentlessly, playing over 450 shows.
