Artist Statement
Since coming to Canada in 2004, I have been intent on establishing my business career. But I came to realize that I was missing something very important, something that would truly be the expression of my heart and soul. In 2006 I had the good fortune to find the Academy of Realist Art. I introduced myself and was accepted as a student there. Since stepping up in that school, I feel I have found what was missing in my life. Every day, seven days a week. I have been studying and working with the help of the instructors. I have researched many different aspects of modern and classic art. I have also built connections with some artists outside the school. This time of discovery has had an amazing affect on my life. I have proved to myself that it is not too late for me to become the unique creative artist that I have always known I could be. Even within the strict rules of the assignments for my studies, I feel a passion and excitement when creating the work. I am always seeing the objects in a different way. My portfolio for this application shows my original thinking in several ways. This creative opportunity has changed my view of my future. I am confident now in my potential to create art based on classical structure, but viewed through my own unique approach. In 2008 I had begun to see what kind artist I want to be, especially after last moment in Academy of Realist Art.It was great time to see and feel the moment being trompe L'oeil artist also I started to learn how to creating effect of the painting.
- Azrahimi, Anahita

Biography
Anahita started painting as a hobby when she was a teenager, copying Walt Disney cartoon characters that eventually evolved into reproducing works of Monet and Turner. She studied drawing and oil painting techniques independently with some of Iran's leading visual artists. Her major in Visual and Studio Arts from the Arts Management program at the University of Toronto at Scarborough has given her a more structured study of the fundamentals of Visual Arts.
Artist Statement
In her recent body of work, she is playing with the energies of the collage pieces, chosen from the one and only fashion magazine Vogue, in relation to each other and the texture-based painting. The pieces are chosen based on their texture, colour, light and individual energy.
Vogue, fashion's bible is among the most controlled and controlling magazines on the newsstands. But control seems to be Anahita Azrahimi's strong suit- Her work translates into an intuitively controlled balance.
-Peter Goddard, Toronto StarAzrahimi creates an absorbing flow of colour and feeling in a small space of paint-swiped canvas. coherent and evocative
-Torontoist- Baczynski, Chris

Biography
Chris holds a Bachelor's degree from University of Toronto and a Master's degree from Ryerson University. He has been practicing photography, including traditional darkroom work and alternative techniques for over ten years, most recently showing his work at the 2008 Huronia Arts and Craft Festival in Barrie and the Artisans at the Distillery show in Toronto. His most recent work focuses on the seemingly timeless, but in actuality, potentially quite fragile, geological features of our Mother Earth.
Artist Statement
In my work I try to show the natural beauty and fragility of Earth's crust, as shaped into whimsical forms by wind and water. Many geological formations similar to those presented in the photographic series no longer exist, having been destroyed by human hand. In the spirit of medium being the message, the photographs are all made on film (a traditional media), the final prints being hand-made by the artist using the traditional darkroom processes. This precludes the use of digital manipulation to

nature – an act that would contravene the spirit and purpose of the series.- Bank, Dawn

Biography
For Dawn, Artists are people who she respects highly in the world of painting art. They are signs, reassurances that she is not alone in her passion to hold a brush. With a mere brush, artists can bring to life a scene thats quite similar though from a different place in the universe. Allowing the audience a glimpse of the world inside the painters artistic mind. Dawn began her fascination with painting from the moment that she was able to hold a pencil. She wove through with independence, refusing to stray away from her own ideas. Her paintings are the expressions of her independent spirit.

She is inspired by people-watching and music and all the earth's magnificent creatures. She sits in an invisible row boat and floats down a stream of expressive watercolour, she sings and laughs, dreaming up all the fantastical ways she will turn her curious imagination inside out.
Artist Statement
Life is a topsy turvy roller coaster of a ride, with twists and turns and overly dramatic ups and downs. So many of us are so busy, caught up, overwhelmed. We are walking around with weights on our shoulders, missing the unadorned beauty in some of life's seemingly mundane moments. My latest creations are inspired by simple everyday instances and emotions. They are snapshots of tiny moments of joy or whimsy. The quirky characters strive to elicit a quick flash of childish awe, a grin or giggle. They exist to provide a small and subtle break from all the "heavy". They are quiet investigations of the uncomplicated wonder between the topsy and the turvy of the ride.... AT THE JUNCTION ARTS FESTIVAL 2009 I plan on sharing the curious characters submitted with this application along with a few more who are still dancing around in my imagination, waiting their turn....

I was born and raised in a neighbourhood that borders the Junction to the east. My rush hour career is in enterprise database systems. My off-hour career is in copper sculpting. Both are enjoyable, satisfying, and stressful.

Artist Statement
I am attempting to infuse my love of jazz into my paintings. I gain inspiration from Romare Bearden but also from listening to the music of jazz giants. My latest series of acrylic paintings began as photographing instruments. I am experimenting with using acrylic paint like watercolour, where I dilute it to a watery consistency, wash the canvas with vibrant colours then take parts away with salt or rags. I am working on a second series using the same techniques called Jazz Artists. I hope in the future to show the artist side by side with his/her instrument.

In between one position and the next. The place that moves so fast you miss it, catching that moment. My subject matter is the energy within that. Influenced by the force of nature.
